Landing
mobile app
OVERVIEW
Landing is a mobile app concept that will help users before, during and after a relocation process. The app will support a smooth move by providing tailor-made checklists that include all administrative tasks and useful tips.
MY ROLE
the problem
In our modern world people are moving around the globe following work opportunities, studies and foreign life experiences. Such a move usually requires various arrangements and tasks that are needed to be accomplished in specific time periods, as well as decision making regarding the new chapter in life. Even though vast information is available, there are barely any technological tools that assist successful moves.
RESEARCH
COMPETITIVE RESEARCH
I wanted to explore existing solutions for supporting international relocation processes. I found that plenty of scattered content is available on the web, mostly provided by consulting firms that offer relocating services and in dedicated forums and social networks.
This amount of content and its lack of coherence may be overwhelming for those who are trying to prepare for the coming move. As for digital products, I was surprised to find only few mobile apps that assist international relocation. These have limited abilities and features and are not focused on the challenge.

Movers and Packaging apps advantages
– Generating a moving plan based on a basic questionnaire.
– Providing information about each part of the moving plan.
– Offering the users related services and options.
Task management apps advantages
– Clear and simple interfaces.
– Prioritizing tasks by level of urgency.
– Sharing and assigning tasks with other users.
– Adding reminders and due dates.
– Synchronization with calendars.
Insights from the competitive research and the similar apps research
1. The app needs to be adjustable to fit different moving scenarios.
2. The app needs to be “smart” in order to reduce the amount of decisions the users need to make.
3. Sharing lists and tasks support assignment of responsibilities, directly increasing efficiency.
4. Simple structure and clear hierarchies are essential for the users’ experience.
user research
In order to get first hand insights regarding problems, pain points, goals and expectations, I have conducted interviews with people who had already been through or currently are in the process of relocation.

top findings
pain points
Following the interviews, I could easily identify several pain points:
– It is hard to identify and understand the exact tasks required for a move because the information available online frequently contradict itself.
– Managing many tasks in a short period of time, most of which are time sensitive, is challenging.
– Stress and anxiety during a relocation process are very common and are causing mistakes.
– The specific locations involved in a move (both current location and the destination) as well as the household structure affect the relocation process in different ways.
Key insights
Reliable source – The users need to know that they can trust the product.
Effortlessness – Create an effortless process to reduce the users stress levels.
Hierarchies – Clear tasks’ order and hierarchy is a key for meeting crucial deadlines in a complex process.
The solution
A one-stop product for managing all the administrative tasks regarding the move. The product will generate a tailor-made, detailed task-list for a specific move, divided into stages and categories with related tips. The user will benefit from an organized process, that will reduce stress and uncertainty while significantly increasing efficiency.
Product structure
I began the design process by creating a basic structure with all the product screens, helping me to construct the application and its features.
Sketching and planning
wireframes flow
After a couple of paper iterations I had the general idea ready, and I transformed the sketches into Figma where it is easier to edit and see a more accurate view of the screens and interactions.
The final result was a clear user flow. I laid out all the pages so I could visualize how each piece is related to one another and how a user would access each section of the product.
landing: the features
onboarding
Aiming to convince the user to fill the coming questionnaire, this section is explaining the value proposition in providing the app with the users’ specific moving information.
Questionnaire
The questionnaire covers all information required for the generation of tailor-made task-lists, which provides the users with the confidant in the process and its outcomes.
The task list
Task screen
Relocation tasks are complex and driven by information. The task screen support the user by presenting all relevant information in one place, including subtasks, notes, reminders and who is assigned for this task. Another feature is the Tips section that provides additional information on how to effectively complete the task.
add new task
my move
Users achieve a sense of control by having an holistic view of the relocation process. In this section, the users can see and interact with all their tasks divided into three stages: before the move, during moving day and after the arrival.
Visual design
During the visual design phase I wanted to explore visualization options for the app. My aim was to create an aesthetic yet simple design to maximize the user experience and the product’s overall appeal.
final thoughts
Following two relocations with my family and endless conversations with others who went through this process, I have witnessed the stress and confusion involved in any relocation. I felt that a dedicated product for relocation management is in need.
My main goal was to create a product that will support the users from the starting point – the decision to relocate, until the move is completed and everything is settled. The challenge was to simplify this complex process and create a clear timeline for each and every task.
I hope that the app’s personalized approach will better support the users and reduce their stress.
I also believe that the different features and content that I have included, such as the separate stages, status updates and detailed task information will allow the users to better manage their time and efforts, leading to a successful move.
